Thrice Is Nice: Walton Unloads 3 Homers
Monday, June 4th , 2001
Roanake Black Cardinals center fielder Jerome Walton had a magnificent game against the Philadelphia Pythians, rocketing three balls out of National League Park to help the Black Cardinals win, 10-2.
"I got some good pitches to hit and I creamed them," he said after the game. "The first was a big, fat fastball and the last two were hanging curves. All three were mistakes."
For the game, Walton went 3-for-5 with 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"There's a fine line between hitting home runs and line drives," Roanake manager Matthew Walthall said later. "Seems like Jerome found his home run stroke today."
Jerome Walton hit a solo-shot off Milt Pappas in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, struck out in the 6th, hit a GRAND SLAM off Adalberto Mejía in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Adalberto Mejía in the 9th.
This year, Walton is batting .259 with 7 hits, 4 home runs, 8 RBIs, 2 walks, .333 OBP and has scored 7 runs.
