Hobbie Twirls Oaks to Shutout Win
Wednesday, June 27th , 2001
Glen Hobbie of the Oakland Oaks was on top of his game.

The 25-year-old tantalized the Albany Diamond Dogs with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 3-0.

"He had the changeup working," Albany manager Jared Russom said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Oakland hurler had 7 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 4 hits in his complete-game effort.

Hobbie told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

In 9 starts this year, Hobbie has crafted a 3-3 record and a 2.97 ERA.
