Ontiveros Has Season End
Wednesday, July 11th , 2001
Steve Ontiveros had hoped for the best, but expected the worst. Today, he learned from the Oakland medical staff that he would miss the rest of the season. The Oakland closer suffered a torn labrum in an earlier ballgame. He admitted to being discouraged, but said he plans to come back strong next year.
This year, his stats show Ontiveros has 11 saves in 16 relief appearances with a 4-0 mark and 1.88 ERA. He has struck out 12 batters and issued no walks in 14.1 innings. Opposing clubs have a .196 against him.
