Black Cardinals Move on to League Championship Series
Wednesday, August 22nd , 2001
The joy and relief on the faces of the Roanake Black Cardinals players was obvious as they celebrated their Division Series win over the Albany Diamond Dogs.
"In a series like this, the smallest thing can make the difference in how it turns out," said Roanake center fielder Odúbel Herrera, shortly after the 4-0 win that clinched the series 3-2. "We're happy we did what it takes to get it done."
The team is now off to the League Championship Series.
Herrera won series MVP honors on the strength of his .353 batting average during the series. He also had a .542 on-base percentage and 2 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 8 runs.
The Roanake Black Cardinals will play against the Oakland Oaks in the next round. Oakland won their series against the Staten Island Yankees 3 games to 0. The League Championship Series schedule will be announced after the Division Series finishes.
