Herrera Selected 2001 A Most Valuable Player Award Saturday, September 22nd , 2001 Odúbel Herrera of the Roanake Black Cardinals had a fine season this year and today he accepted the Most Valuable Player Award for 2001.
The 22-year-old center fielder put up a .358 average and a .423 on-base percentage, piling up 95 hits, 20 doubles, 6 triples, 15 home runs, 47 RBIs and 50 runs scored.
He received 11 first place votes out of a possible 20. Danny Walton of the Staten Island Yankees finished second in voting with 3 first place votes, while Jules Thomas of the Oakland Oaks finished third with 4 first place votes.
