Cy Young, who is tied for 2nd in the AL in complete games with 2, propelled his team to victory over the Memphis Red Sox. The final score was 5-4, Cleveland. The winner was Young. He threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was Stubby Overmire. The first-place Spiders have a one-game lead in their division.
Ron Blomberg had a big bases-clearing double for the Spiders in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Cleveland leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a curveball from Stubby Overmire, who is tied for 7th in the AL in innings pitched with 143.0, and swatted a double to left. It was his 19th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Spiders ahead, 5-1.
"We were the better team," crowed Blomberg.
