The Cleveland Spiders beat the Memphis Red Sox in a game featuring much hitting but not much pitching. The final score was 12-9, Spiders. One of the hitting stars was catcher Ed Bailey. Bailey, who is on pace to hit 42 home runs this season, went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 6. Cleveland has now won 3 in a row.

The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With Cleveland trailing 9-8, Bailey jumped on a fastball from 31-year old right-handed pitcher Jonathan Papelbon and hit a grand slam home run to left. With one swing, the Spiders had a walk-off win.
