Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Cleveland Spiders take on the Los Angeles Angels.
Benefiting from Freddie Freeman's productive game, the Los Angeles Angels downed the Cleveland Spiders, 7-2. Freeman went 2 for 4 with a double and a walk for the Angels. Bill Doak, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3.1 innings.
Los Angeles relied on the hitting of Steve Garvey to pick up the win. The designated hitter ripped a bases-clearing triple in the top of the seventh inning to put the Angels on top, 7-0. For the game, Garvey had 1 triple and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
Freeman told a Los Angeles Herald reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
The victory makes Los Angeles 1-1.
