Philadelphia Squanders Great Game by Dickey
|
The New York Gothams spoiled a good performance by Philadelphia catcher Bill Dickey, bumping off Philadelphia, 5-4, at Polo Grounds. Dickey went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Brian Wilson notched his 17th save in 21 chances. The last-place Gothams now sit at 59-65.
Benny Kauff drove in one run for New York. The 28-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Ted Kennedy. It was his 77th RBI of the season.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Kauff said.
