New York starter Christy Mathewson kept the Kansas City offense from doing much damage. The right-hander leaned on his screwball in leading the Gothams to a 6-1 win. The Gothams move to 60-67 with the win, while the Monarchs drop to 64-63.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Will Clark? The New York first baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Gothams on top, 2-1. For the game, Clark had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"Christy is tough when he's hitting his spots," said New York manager Daniel Makonnen.
