Spiders Squeeze By Memphis, 8-7
The Memphis Red Sox and Cleveland Spiders provided some drama for the home crowd.

The Cleveland Spiders snuck past the Memphis Red Sox, 8-7, in 10 innings. Cleveland first baseman Willie McCovey, in particular, had a standout performance. Cleveland pitcher Cory Gearrin earned the win, hiking his record to 5-1. Andrew Miller suffered the loss.

Cleveland used a timely hit from Arky Vaughan to get the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Spiders ahead, 8-7. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Memphis manager Daniel Makonnen. "But we decided not to take it."

Cleveland goes to 75-57. The win puts them 2½ games up in their division.
