The home crowd had a good time watching the Kansas City Monarchs and New York Gothams get after it.

New York second baseman Larry Doyle had a 3-RBI game, which helped his team beat the Kansas City Monarchs, 8-4. The last-place Gothams lifted their record to 63-72.

Early in the game, center fielder Willie Mays had a 2-run home run for New York. It was his 42nd home run of the season and put the Gothams on top, 2-0.

"It's not about individual awards," Doyle told a New York Today reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."
