Bench Hits Two Dingers, ABCs Win, 8-2
The Indianapolis ABCs defeated the Homestead Grays, 8-2. Catcher Johnny Bench deserved a large share of the credit. Bench slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for the ABCs. After today's action, Indianapolis sits at 66-68; Homestead slips to 67-67.

With Indianapolis leading 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Bench hit a fastball from David Price for a 3-run home run. It was his 34th home run of the season and put the ABCs ahead, 6-2.

In his postgame comments, ABCs manager Daniel Makonnen heaped praise on Bench. "For a young player, he's done a lot of good things for us."
