Luis Padrón, who leads the NL in quality starts with 21, never let the Gothams get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the ABCs to a win, 2-0. The setback makes New York 64-75.

Johnny Bench, who is on pace to hit 41 home runs this season, had a direct impact on the outcome. Bench contributed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put Indianapolis up, 2-0.

"Bottom line," said New York skipper Daniel Makonnen, "we didn't play well enough to win."
