Red Sox Fall Short, 8-7, at Baltimore
The Memphis Red Sox and Baltimore Black Sox provided some drama for the home crowd.

Memphis designated hitter Manny Ramírez had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 8-7, to Baltimore at Camden Yards. Ramírez went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Buddy Groom converted his 10th save in 12 tries.

Hialeah, Florida-born Manny Machado came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded and the Black Sox trailing 6-5, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Baltimore on top.

In postgame comments to the Baltimore Today, Machado said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."

The Black Sox saw their win-loss record go to 61-77. At the same time, the Red Sox fell to 63-75.
