The New York Gothams got a marvelous performance from pitcher Gaylord Perry. The right-hander kept the Wandering offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 6-2 New York victory at Polo Grounds. Perry yielded 2 runs over 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 10. His record improves to 12-12. New York is 69-77 and Wandering, with the loss, 70-75.
The Gothams got a big at-bat from catcher Buster Posey. For the game, Posey went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 35th home run of the season gave New York a 4-2 lead.
"Gaylord had good arm action, good stuff," said New York manager Daniel Makonnen.
