Memphis Defeats Baltimore, 5-1
|
Starting pitcher Len Barker was a major factor in the 5-1 Memphis Red Sox triumph over the Baltimore Black Sox. Barker yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9. His record improves to 11-12. The Red Sox are now 68-86, while the Black Sox fall to 71-83.
The Red Sox got a gift in the top of the fifth inning, when they were leading 2-1. With two out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Mookie Betts reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run. It made the score 3-1, Memphis.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Betts told the Memphis Bulletin.
