Brooklyn Defeated By Gothams, 6-5
|
New York right fielder Johnny Callison was instrumental in helping the Gothams triumph, 6-5, over the Brooklyn Royal Giants. Callison went 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. New York pitcher Rube Waddell earned the win, hiking his record to 2-0. Dutch Leonard suffered the loss. Brian Wilson earned the save for New York, his 1st of the year.
Callison had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-0 fastball from Dutch Leonard, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Gothams a 6-5 lead. It was the 12th home run of the year for Callison.
"We came in and got the job done. That's what it's all about in this business," said Callison.
The triumph puts New York at 18-17 for the season.
