ABCs Improve to 24-22 with 7-4 Win
|
The Indianapolis ABCs picked up a win at Crosley Field, downing the Birmingham Black Barons, 7-4. On the mound for Indianapolis was right-hander Johnny Cueto, who played a pivotal role in the win. Indianapolis pitcher Jack Billingham got the win. He's now 2-0. Charlie A Morton was tagged with the loss. Rob Dibble wrapped it up, recording his 9th save.
Indianapolis took a 5-4 lead on Johnny Bench's 9th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Bench hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Birmingham pitcher Charlie A Morton visibly frustrated.
"Main thing is I want the team to win," Cueto told a reporter after the game. "Just have to go out there, take care of my job, and give my team a chance to win."
With the win, Indianapolis pushed its record to 24-22.
