ABCs Rally to Nose Past Kansas City
Boog Powell had a good game, but he could not keep the Kansas City Monarchs from falling, 4-3, to the Indianapolis ABCs at Crosley Field. The Kansas City first baseman went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once in the loss. Indianapolis reliever Lefty James picked up the win to move to 1-0. Frank DiPino suffered the loss. The victory gives Indianapolis a record of 27-23.

Tommy Helms was the walk-off hero for Indianapolis. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the ABCs third baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

Kansas City manager Daniel Makonnen said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
