Mays Slugs Gothams to 7-4 Win
The New York Gothams beat the Brooklyn Royal Giants by a score of 7-4. New York center fielder Willie Mays deserved the lion's share of the credit. Mays hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 5 for the Gothams. New York reliever Steve Howe picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Darren Dreifort took the loss. Brian Wilson picked up his 6th save of the season.

Mays had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a first pitch slider from Fernando Valenzuela, he banged a 3-run home run to right-center, giving the Gothams a 7-4 lead. It was the 21st home run of the year for Mays.

"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Mays said.

The win elevated the Gothams to 28-28.
