Spiders Suffer 11-3 Road Loss
|
The Memphis Red Sox picked up a win at Fenway Park, knocking off the Cleveland Spiders, 11-3. Starting pitcher Jon Lester played a key role in the triumph. The winning pitcher was Lester, now 3-2. He tossed 6 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 8. The Memphis winning streak has reached 3 games.
Ted Williams had a big 2-run home run for the Red Sox in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Memphis leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a curveball from Mel Harder, who is tied for 6th in the AL with a 1.16 WHIP, and punished it. The result was his 13th home run of the season, which put the Red Sox on top, 4-1.
Memphis manager Daniel Makonnen commended his team for "putting the hammer down."
