Brooklyn and Indianapolis duked it out and the Royal Giants came out victorious.

Johnny Bench did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Indianapolis ABCs from being beaten, 8-6, to the Brooklyn Royal Giants at Crosley Field. Bench hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Brooklyn improves to 41-31 with the win. They lead their division by 2½ games.

Brooklyn used the hitting of Pedro Guerrero to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Royal Giants on top, 7-6. For the game, Guerrero had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"You need to show up when your number's called," said Guerrero.
