Johnstone Slaps 5 Hits Monday, July 9th , 2001 Jay Johnstone said "it felt like taking batting practice" at Petco Park, and it showed in the box score. The Jersey City center fielder had a fantastic 5-for-6 day against the San Diego Padres, leading his club to victory, 11-2. "I was seeing the ball very well and it was going just about anywhere I wanted," Johnstone said later." Jay Johnstone hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Steve Blass in the 9th. To date Johnstone has chalked up a .358 average with 2 home runs, driven in 9 runs and scored 7 times. |
