After a 5-hit effort to lead Jersey City's 5-3 victory over the San Diego Padres, left fielder Al Simmons told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the WBL Double A-level is really something special."

The 21-year-old player earned his accolades at Petco Park with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Padres.

"His swing is getting there," said Skeeters skipper Mike Wientjes, who spoke glowingly of Simmons after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Al did that to perfection."

Al Simmons singled in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Mike Scott in the 7th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 10th.

Simmons is currently batting .429 with 1 home run and 2 RBIs.
