Johnson Named AA's #1 Hurler Sunday, September 23rd , 2001 The Pitcher of the Year Award for 2001 has been presented and the WBL Double A winner is Art H Johnson of Jersey City. "It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Johnson. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Skeeters star told reporters. Johnson excelled with an impressive 10-4 record in 19 starts. In 125.1 innings he yielded 107 hits and 35 walks, while striking out 108 and compiling a fine 3.45 ERA. He received 12 first place votes out of a possible 20. Jack Kralick of the Atlantic City Bacharach Giants finished second in voting with 6 first place votes, while Eustace Newton of the Jersey City Skeeters finished third with 2 first place votes.
