Thrice as Nice: New York On Verge of Sweep after Walk-off Win
|
The 24-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the Cleveland Spiders worries.
Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Cy Young seemed like a risky move for the Spiders, but it was one of the few things that went right at Polo Grounds today. Young tossed 5.1 solid innings, but it was all for naught after Cleveland dropped a 3-2 decision. With the win, New York took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-7 Round 1.
Will Clark was the walk-off hero for New York. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Gothams first baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Clark said after the game.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Polo Grounds in New York.
